The African Filmmaker’s Roadmap: From Film to Market and Distribution
Juliet Asante’s The African Filmmaker’s Roadmap provides practical guidance for African filmmakers navigating audiences, markets, and distribution.
Ghanaian filmmaker and film industry leader Juliet Asante has launched The African Filmmaker’s Roadmap: From Film to Audience, Market & Distribution.
The practical guide is designed to help African filmmakers understand what comes after a film is completed.
The book was officially launched during the 11th Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) in Kumasi on September 24, 2026.
Helping Filmmakers Find Audiences and Markets
The Roadmap draws on Asante’s experience in filmmaking, production, entrepreneurship, and film-industry development.
It covers key areas of the film business, including audience development, film marketing, festivals, cinema exhibition, television, streaming, and distribution.
The book also guides sales agents, rights and contracts, international sales, and localization.
At the heart of the publication is a simple question: You made the film. Now what?
The Roadmap offers practical tools and industry contacts to help African filmmakers connect their work with audiences and markets across the continent and beyond.

Building a Stronger African Film Industry
Moses Babatope, Founder and Group CEO of Nile Media Entertainment Group, wrote the foreword to the book. He describes the Roadmap as a “much-needed compass.”
Filmmaker and UniMAC film student Ebenezer Amankwah Kwaning also praised the publication for its African-specific approach.
For Asante, making a film should not be the end of the journey.
She said filmmakers also need to understand how to find audiences, enter markets, protect their rights, and build sustainable pathways for their work.
The Black Star International Film Institute publishes the African Filmmaker’s Roadmap through BSIFF EDU.
It forms part of BSIFF’s wider work to strengthen Africa’s film ecosystem through practical industry knowledge, audience development, and access to markets.
The book is now available on Amazon Kindle and Selar.
